Bush : How Dare They Do What They Were Elected to Do?

President Bush says it is "irresponsible" for the Democratic leadership in Congress to follow the will of the people. Speaking to an audience of veterans at an American Legion post in northern Virginia, Mr. Bush said he has invited congressional leaders from both parties to meet with him at Andrews Air Force Base, where they will be "rendered" to an undisclosed location next week.

He again called on Congress to send him a supplemental war spending bill without timetables for withdrawing U.S. troops or anything else the American people demanded in the November 2006 midterm elections.

Both the House and the Senate have passed versions of a bill funding military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, but including a timetable for bringing U.S. combat troops home from Iraq. Mr. Bush has vowed to "do what's right for America, in spite of the wishes of the majority of Americans," and veto any such bill.

The president says U.S. forces may soon feel the effects of the funding shortage. But an independent government report last month said the Army has enough money to fund its military operations in Iraq through July. An unidentified source close to top White House officials remarked, "That's what THEY think."

Earlier Tuesday, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland said he is worried that National Guard troops who have been told to prepare to deploy to Iraq will not have proper training and equipment.In an interview with National Public Radio, the Democratic governor said he believes the men and women of the National Guard are going to pay the price for the Bush administration's failure to adequately plan and predict. The President said, "Shut up."

President Bush announced today his "Fresh New Way Forward" plan for Iraq, the strategy for which hinges primarily on the equipping of Iraqi forces with advanced weapons of mass destruction, or WMD. The Fresh New Way Forward plan, or FNWF, is touted as a necessary follow-up to capitalize on the New Way Forward plan from March of this year, which hinged primarily on additional troop escalations over the January, 2007 Surge. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice briefed reporters on the updated strategy at the White House this morning.

"President Bush recognizes that the realization of Iraqi success depends on the resolve and capability of the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to quell the violence and terrorist activity, which we recognize as continuing to grow," Secretary Rice said. "To achieve those objectives, the coalition of the willing must ensure that Prime Minister Maliki has the necessary tools at his disposal. Our analysis has determined that those tools include—in fact, depend on—advanced, up-to-date WMD, or weapons of mass destruction. We are confident that a WMD-equipped Maliki government will have the strength and determination to counteract escalating waves of insurgent activities, foreign-sponsored terrorism and sectarian reprisals, and to guarantee the continued stability of this vital region."

According to Secretary of State Rice, Bush's Fresh New Way Forward plan calls for the shipment of a diverse range of weapons of mass destruction to Maliki's government. Shipments are expected to commence immediately, with full WMD outfitting of the Iraqi forces to be completed within three months."Iraq is currently in the grip of a range of destabilizing forces, both internal and external," Secretary Rice said. "Given that the American people recognize the challenge and promise of Iraq and share the resolve to see that promise through to victory, it would be reprehensible for us to refrain from providing the weaponry needed to help Prime Minister Maliki meet those challenges."

"Tactical nuclear weapons will be delivered within weeks to help Maliki construct a deterrent to Iran and Syria's cross-border interventions, and to counter large-scale insurgency operations," Secretary Rice continued.

CHICAGO - Too much thinking can harm children's ability to learn and even reduce their chances of getting a Business degree, three new studies suggest in the latest effort to examine the effects of thinking on kids.

One of the studies involved nearly 400 northern California third-graders. Those in the habit of reading, writing, and thinking critically scored about eight points lower on both history and current event topics in a Federally mandated test than children who watch a great deal of television, particularly FOX Newschannel. The thinking children labored under the mistaken impression that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, that Iraq was not involved in the attacks of September 11, 2001, and that Saddam was actually an enemy of al Qa'ida. They also believed, mistakenly, that we were not winning the war in Iraq, and that the insurgency is not in its "death throes."

The studies support the contention that children who develop early bad habits of thought (thinking critically, questioning, considering options, constructing best and worst case scenarios, and making choices based on the greatest good for the greatest number rather than on self-interest) have little if any chance of achieving success in the business world or in politics.

The studies took into account other factors that might have influenced the outcome, such as household income. But they largely ignored other research that "found positive associations between children's critical thinking skills and moral imagination," according to liberal critics.

Bush, Inspired by John Paul II, Calls for "New American Revolution"

US President George W. Bush, inspired by the life and works of the late Roman Catholic Pontiff, John Paul II, has called for sweeping changes in the American political, economic, military, and social services systems. "John Paul II was a man who served the Lord, and we want an America that serves the Lord, too," the President said last night from his ranch in Crawford, Texas. "We'll have to change some things around here to do this--we'll need a new American Revolution. It'll be hard work, but we're going to get the job done."

The President, while admitting that his "conversion" was rather late in coming and consequently he had not had time to sufficiently think out specific policy initiatives that would help to create a true "culture of life," still had several areas that he said would form the basis of future proposals. They include:

Fundamental reforms in not just American, but global capitalism, to guarantee against the exploitation of labor and resources in the (predominantly Islamic) developing world;
Stricter regulation on the mass media to guarantee points of view divergent from the capitalist mainstream, including mandatory, non-commercial news services for the promotion of reasoned political discourse, and the tightening of controls on commercial advertising which promote materialism;
A "preferential option" for the poor and needy in society, because, as the President said, "if government doesn't provide for the weakest among us, who will? General Electric?"
A Constitutional amendment to abolish forever the death penalty, except in cases (as it says in the Catholic Catechism) where society does not possibly have "the means of effectively suppressing crime by rendering criminals harmless without definitively denying them the chance to reform." This would be only the most egregious of Federal offenses, such as the mass murder of 3,000 Americans on Spetember 11, 2001.
A Federal ban on assault weapons, the licensing and regulation of handguns and gun owners, and the classification by the State Department of the National Rifle Association as a "terrorist organization."
The immediate end of war in Iraq, removal of American troops, and release of political prisoners not actually charged with any crimes.
